The most common question I got the last few weeks was, “How do you not freeze?” So let’s talk about winter fashion. Because it is possible to look good and stay warm. In this post, I spill the beans on my secrets to not freezing.
First things first, LAYERS!
Proper layering makes it easier to adjust to changing temperatures. We definitely need to have more layers when we’re outside. However, since it is warmer inside, we have to be able to remove some of the layers and remain comfortable. I always make sure that each layer can be a stand-alone outfit so I won’t hesitate taking some off once I’m inside or feeling warmer.
Wool is God’s gift to mankind (Thank you sheep). They keep us warmer in the winter. Plain and simple. If you don’t like to layer so much but want to make sure you’re warm all the time during the winter, wear wool undergarments.
There are many variations to wool; cashmere wool, alpaca wool, merino wool, etc. It doesn’t matter as long as it’s some type of wool. It actually just boils down to personal preference. I have wool underpants that are 100% merino wool, another under garments that’s 50% wool and 50% polyester while my favorite winter coat is a blend of wool and cashmere. And of course, don’t forget wool socks to complete that winter fashion.
Leather is definitely warm, so wear those leather pants, leather jackets, and everything leather-y to keep yourself warm this winter.
This is something I discovered recently while trying to spice up my outfit and wear something other than jeans. These sweater dresses are not too feminine and versatile. You can either dress them up or down depending on accessories and shoes.
I love how easy it is to toss them on and they go well with sneakers, boots, or heels.
Leggings with Boots
This is an alternative to jeans or leather pants, pairing leggings made of wool (or anything thermal) and boots.
Go for shoes in the same color as your leggings for a clean sophisticated look.
Short skirts and tights
Just because the warm summer is over doesn’t mean we have to store our short skirts and shorts. We can still use them during the winter, just pair them with tights (and or leggings).
Wearing waist-length coats or jackets is just not enough for the winter. Wearing maxi coats, however, makes me feel warmer. So if you only want to invest in one winter jacket, buy a maxi coat that you’re comfortable with.
Cold Weather Accessories
Last but not the least, make sure to bundle up with gloves or mittens, beanie or hat, and scarves. I love scarves because you can easily take them off or drape them over your torso when you are extra cold.
Since moving to this very cold country from the warmest country there is (probably), people have often asked me how I managed to not freeze. Now you know why. So tell me, what’s your secret to staying warm in the winter? I’d love to learn some more tips on winter fashion! Comment them down below or on Instagram (@carenshope).
